A delivery executive of food delivery company, Zomato, who was found eating out of a package meant for a customer in Madurai, was fired by the company on Monday.

A video shot in Madurai showed the Zomato executive, sitting on a scooter, breaking the seal on a food package and eating it. He then resealed it before putting it back in the delivery bag. The video went viral and questions were raised about the firm’s service quality and many customers shared similar experiences.

Zomato acknowledged the incident and issued an apology on social media. “We have spoken to him at length – and while we understand that this was an error in judgment, we have taken him off our platform,” the company said, adding that it would educate its delivery executives and would soon introduce tamper-proof packaging.
