The temple was built by Godse, who murdered Mahatma Gandhi and observed his memorial day as a martyr's day.

Nathuram Godse's supporters, the Hindu Maha Sabha, had demanded the construction of the temple in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.

But the district administration refused to build the temple. Then the temple was built in their office.

They said that nobody could stop building the temple in their office. The day (novermber 15) of Godse hanged in Amabala Jail, opened the temple and conducted as sacrifice day.

The Congress party has condemned this. Those who murdered Mahatma Gandhi had claimed that the people who built the temple were traitors, and should file a sedition case against them.
