The city of Chennai has been included in UNESCO's Creative Cities list.

UNESCO, part of the UN system, recognizes the city's creative cities, including art, handicraft, urban design, literature and music.

Prior to this, Jaipur and Varanasi had only the list. So far, 116 cities of 54 countries have been included. At present, UNESCO has joined the Chennai city.
