Jactto-Geo members said they were unable to fulfil their decision to return to duty as they were facing action initiated against them by officials.

In a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the organisation said teachers were not allowed to resume duty at their respective schools where they were working till January 21 and were told that they had been transferred.

Many staff were unable to join work because of cases filed against them, suspensions and disciplinary action.

The memorandum urged the government to rescind its decision to transfer teachers, and if such transfer orders had been issued, they should be withdrawn at once.

Request not met

The organisation said it had temporarily withdrawn the agitation because of the request made by the Chief Minister.

However, the action initiated against the teachers made it impossible for them fulfil his request.

The protesters wanted the government to withdraw all the cases filed against the striking employees, cancel all disciplinary proceedings and suspensions, and also improve the relationship between the employees and the government.
