PMK founder S. Ramadoss has sought the State government’s intervention over the issue of non-payment of wages in some private sugar mills and non-payment of dues to sugarcane farmers.

In a statement, he alleged that in two private sugar mills — Arooran Sugars and Ambika Sugars — over 500 workers had been protesting for the past few days over the issue of non-payment of wages for the last 9 months and their livelihood had been affected.

Dr. Ramadoss said no solution had been found on the issue and the sugar mills operated in Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister Doraikkannu’s constituency.
Dues worth 1,347 crore

He also said 24 private sugar mills in the State had to pay arrears of ₹1,347 crore to farmers and nothing had been done despite assurances from the government.

Dr. Ramadoss said the government should immediately resolve the issues, and if it could not, it should admit its inability and resign.
