The School Education Department has called for details about the number of teachers who participated in the recent strike by government employees.

Director of School Education V.C. Rameswaramurugan has advised all chief educational officers to immediately seek from district educational officers details of departmental staff who participated in the strike between January 22 and 30.

The CEOs have been given detailed instructions. The Department has provided a list of government, fully aided and partially aided schools in each district. Each school has a unique code number. The details of staff members are also provided on the website.

The officers must log on to the district user school management information system and click on the ‘strike report’. They must then click on the unique code number and against the name of the staff member. When the officials click the check box with ‘participated’, a tick mark appears.

Detailed instructions

The officials have also been instructed to select dates on which each staff member participated in the strike. Though by default all days would be selected, the official can deselect boxes pertaining to dates the staff did not participate, says the circular.

As many as 51 teachers’ associations participated in the strike. By January 29, many of them returned to duty after the government threatened with dismissal.

“Yesterday, we met the School Education Secretary and the Minister. We are also trying to get an appointment to meet the Deputy Chief Minister,” a teacher said.
