DMK president and the Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, M.K.Stalin on Wednesday appeared before a special court in connection with defamation cases initiated against him by AIADMK Government.

Following a report in a Tamil daily about certain remarks made by Mr. Stalin, the then City Public Prosecutor had filed a defamation case against the DMK leader and a few others in February 2012.

The case was registered against the accused persons under Section 199 (2) of the Criminal Procedure Code and sections 499, 500 and 501 of the Indian Penal Code.

Subsequently, six other cases were filed against him. He appeared before the court with his advocates and sought the court to exempt his personal appearance in further proceedings.

The court ordered to exempt his appearance and adjourned the matter to another date.
